Cover your ass!

I woke up having a weak body. I'm sick for almost a week. But as they say always look at the bright side. While watching foreign show. My mom called me and said "Successful Entrepreneur oh". I'm having my breakfast and I moved fast to go on our sala.

The host sitting next to a pretty lady named Sara Blakely. He asked her how she started , or how the idea was made. She said that " I'm a consumer and a clothes lover. I was problematic on my white pants because my panty line was so obvious. I experimented , I wear pantyhose and disliked the appearance of the seamed foot while wearing open toe shoes. So she experimented , she cut off the pantyhose and that made the idea brilliant. Many woman were having problem in their butt and pantylines. many pants was stocked in the closets. And now she solved the problem. After having that idea , she researched in the internet if something exists already like her idea. But the result is 0. After that she research for a manufacturers , she had cold callings. She's not new in that thing , she's been a fax machine seller for 7 years. Most of the manufacturers she called said NO but it's not a big thing for her because she waited for 2 years to see the product made.
Some think that it's just a crazy idea but for those people who believe in their visions became successful. To make the story short one man supported her idea.
She used her $5,000 savings to fly and have meeting on that manufacturer and she got the deal closed. At first she knew that the man wants to help her but doesn't believe if it will be paid off.

She doesn't even know how to market her product so she made a unique idea in packaging.
So it will be catchy and different among others. Here's the packaging.

After talking to a lawyer for the patent she went to a friend's place and use the computer to make the design. She used red color because when it comes to pantyhose most of the companies use brown or white packaging. So she made it more attractive. And she used half naked cartoon ladies unlike others that used real people.

You know what? I'm amazed that she doesn't entered in a business school or even have any business education. Her plan is to be a lawyer like her dad , but she failed twice. When she started SPANX , she don't even think that it won't be successful. All she knows is that it will help many people especially women like her.

And the name SPANX , the most popluar products in that time is Coda and Coca Cola. So she thought that with a K sound is lucky in business. As he went on the road she saw the word SPANKS and change "KS" to X to be more memorable.

She told the host that having 0 knowledge became her asset. Because when you don't know about something you'll make much different compared to others. And her determination helped her to pursue.

She successfully pitched her idea to Neiman-Marcus by personally taking the buyer to the ladies restroom to show her the benefits of Spanx in person. BloomingdalesSaks, and Bergdorf Goodman soon followed. She handled all aspects of the business from marketing, logistics, and product positioning (preferring that Spanx be sold alongside shoes rather than in hosiery). In November 2000, Oprah Winfrey named Spanx her favorite product of the year and sales took off; soon after Blakely resigned from Danka. Spanx had $4 million in sales in its first year and $10 million in sales in its second year. In 2001, she signed a contract with QVC, the home shopping channel, where she sold 8,000 pairs in the first six minutes. -wikipedia

She is the world's youngest self-made female billionaire. In 2012, she was named in Time 100, an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world assembled by Time. - wikipedia

I really admire her. And I will not forget her words.

"My key to success is the influence of my father , he encourage us to fail. In the dining table he always asked us what was our failure for the week. And if we don't tell anything he will be disappointed. One day I went home telling my father that I have my try out and it was horrible, he gave me a high five. It shows that , not trying vs. not succeeding. And now failure is not a big thing for me. It's just a normal thing. Having cold callings and NO doesn't face me. I'm selling fax machine door to door for 7 years , I don't like fax machine yet I can sell it. What more if I sell the product I'm excited to."
- Sara Blakely

No business education. Big goals and clear vision. $5,000 savings. No giving up.

Now she's on top and kicking!

I know someday. I will. :"""""""""""""""">
